Elementary PE

Physical Education is a planned sequence of events designed to provide students an opportunity to reach his/her full potential physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. The class is designed to give students the opportunity to develop skills beneficial throughout his/her lifetime.

Elementary Art

Elementary art includes an introduction to the seven basic elements of art. As students experience each element of art they are exposed to a wide variety of media in both 2D and 3D formats. As students progress in skills, principles of design are added to project designs. Principles of color theory are introduced at all levels and expanded upon as students progress.  In addition, students are exposed to the work of significant artists, both historical and contemporary, through projects designed to emulate the work of a particular artist. Every grade has the opportunity to experience pottery hand building techniques while completing one project each year. All work in elementary is completely studio based.

Elementary Music

The emphasis of the general music program is on developing each student’s capacity to respond to music in an expressive, sensitive manner.  The classes are structured around the concepts of melody, rhythm, form and harmony.  The major activities involve singing, dancing, performing, playing instruments, listening, and creating. Elementary music focuses on developing student’s proficiency in music reading as well as being able to accurately describe musical works they hear. The class works through music theory (rhythms and melody) through singing, games, and instrument playing.
