Superintendent's Page

Fall is always a busy time at a school so as the new superintendent, I want to take this opportunity to provide you an update on some exciting developments at the Buckley Community Schools.

NCA ACCREDITATION: For the first time in school history the Buckley Community Schools has received full accreditation from the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. This independent accreditation assures parents and the community that quality learning opportunities are taking place at the school by holding our educational professionals to ever-higher standards. The NCA logo will be appearing in the near future on all school correspondences and publications. This accreditation also helps our students as they apply to colleges and universities. Approximately 50% of schools in the region are NCA accredited.

ACADEMIC UPGRADES: This fall semester, the high school is offering an Honors or an Advanced Placement English class along with an Honors Chemistry class taught by Mr. Boyle. Upon successful completion of the class and national exam, students will be able to earn college credit by taking the Advanced Placement English class. Spanish is expanded to include junior and senior high students as well as potentially upper elementary students. Music and art continue at the elementary level and we are providing those programs at the junior high level for this year. The READ 180 reading and comprehension improvement program, which was implemented on a limited basis last year, is expanded to two sections so more students can participate, as the results have been extremely positive this year.

If I can be of further assistance in answering any questions and\or issues that you may have about any school related issue, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Steve Prissel
